Vimeo DatenschutzerklärungREPLICA: Country of Sheep is a speculative design project investigating the long-term consequences of humanity’s increasing dependence on external memory systems. Combining research, worldbuilding, editorial design, animation, interaction design, and exhibition design, it presents a speculative archive reconstructing more than a thousand years of future human evolution.
Spanning a written thesis, an animated film, an editorial publication, an interactive website, an AI archive guide, and a collection of reconstructed artifacts, it forms a single communicative system in which each medium reveals a different perspective on the same civilization.
Rather than predicting the future, it uses speculation to examine the present. REPLICA explores how memory shifts from a biological capacity to technological infrastructure, gradually becoming the foundation of identity, governance, and shared reality. As memory becomes increasingly centralized, civilization achieves unprecedented continuity while growing dependent on the systems that sustain it. When those systems begin to contradict themselves, continuity fragments, shared reality collapses, and the future itself becomes impossible to imagine.
At its core, the project investigates how the externalization of memory transforms continuity, reshaping identity, governance, and ultimately the construction of reality itself. Through the metaphor of an endless herd moving through time, it reflects on the relationship between individual agency and collective systems, asking what happens when memory no longer records reality, but instead begins to curate it.
